AI is creating new opportunities for journalism, but it also presents ‘hallucinations’

The Observatory of Communication, Obercom, in partnership with IBERIFIER, launched a report on ‘Generative AI – Risks and Opportunities for Journalism’ on 17 February. According to the research – which draws on the latest studies on the subject – journalists of the future will have to be proficient in language and journalistic ethics and have skills in AI tools. The main results points out that there are still mechanisms of resistance on the part of journalists, who point out the loss of editorial control and the fact that content can be produced in a biased way.

Among the main conclusions, on the other hand, is the possibility of hallucinations from AI models.
One of the studies on the use of AI in newsrooms, carried out by the World Association of Newspapers, points out that it is being used mainly to write texts and carry out simplified searches.
