Scientific paper showcases Maldita.es’ experience and pioneering work in promoting media literacy and fact-checking

The journal Educação e Cultura Contemporânea, in its special issue on “Educação midiática para todxs” (“Media Education for All”), has published the article “The Maldita.es Experience”, authored by Vivian Rangel of Maldita.es.

The paper presents the experience of the Spanish foundation Maldita.es, an internationally recognised organisation in the fight against disinformation, and examines the development of innovative methodologies, tools and strategies to promote media literacy among diverse audiences.

In the article, the author explains how Maldita.es has sought to strengthen critical thinking and enhance media literacy through a multidisciplinary approach that combines journalism, technology, research, education, public policy advocacy and the defence of fundamental rights. Among the initiatives highlighted are its innovative community-building model, the creation of the first automated chatbot designed to identify viral disinformation, and the central role of media literacy in addressing the challenges posed by the spread of false information.
