Literacy: Students from Escola Secundária Viriato explore journalism through podcasts

The Instituto Politécnico Viseu, IPV, organised an initiative entitled “Podcaster for a Day!”, aimed at promoting media and digital literacy among secondary school students. The session included guidance on podcast production.

The activity, which took place on 15 April at the radio studio of the Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu, ESEV, involved students from Escola Secundária Viriato, located in Viseu. As part of the IPV/IBERIFIER Workshop, the session was led by Miguel Midões, a lecturer on the Social Communication course and a researcher at IBERIFIER.

In addition to the opportunity to explore the world of podcasts—from understanding their different formats to gaining hands-on experience in content production—the students used microphones, made recordings, and developed their own messages.

The initiative stood out for its practical approach to developing critical skills in the field of media, reinforcing the importance of understanding how the media and journalism operate as a foundation for informed and active participation in the digital society.
