The projects “Noticias falsas, víctimas reales” by EFE Verifica, “Laura” by Newtral, and the research that looked into more than 1,000 fraudulent Facebook pages by Maldita.es, three organisations that are part of the IBERIFIER Iberian network against disinformation, have been shortlisted for the Global Fact-Checking Awards, presented by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). The awards ceremony will take place on 19 June during the GlobalFact conference in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The IFCN is the world’s leading network of fact-checking organisations, bringing together dozens of fact-checking initiatives from across the globe and promoting standards of transparency, independence and journalistic rigour in the fight against disinformation.
Among the shortlisted projects is “Noticias falsas, víctimas reales” by EFE Verifica, an investigation focusing on the real-life consequences that disinformation can have on ordinary people.
Meanwhile, “Laura” by Newtral is a journalistic investigation that exposes the creation of an entirely fabricated disinformation campaign through image manipulation and the reconstruction of a digital trail.
The Maldita.es’ project analysed more than 1,000 fraudulent Facebook pages across 60 countries, uncovering an international network of public transport phishing scams linked to Russia and Vietnam.
