IBERIFIER researcher Vítor Tomé, who leads the project’s Media Literacy strand, took part in two initiatives in Évora dedicated to advancing media literacy and information integrity, on 9 July 2026.
The day began with a keynote presentation entitled “Library Projects to Foster Citizens’ Media Literacy and Information Integrity: Research from Portugal, Spain and Ireland”, delivered at the regional conference organised by CFAE Beatriz Serpa Branco and the Alentejo School Libraries Network at Severim de Faria School Cluster. The presentation highlighted the importance of collaborative projects in equipping citizens with the skills needed to navigate today’s increasingly complex information ecosystem.
In the afternoon, Tomé led the workshop “Media and Information Literacy in the School Library”, entitled “Strategies for Developing Community Media Literacy and Artificial Intelligence Projects from Libraries”, held at André de Gouveia Secondary School in Évora. Organised by CFAE Beatriz Serpa Branco in partnership with the Alentejo Library Network, the workshop brought together 21 participants, including teachers and school librarians.
Structured in three parts, the workshop opened with an analysis and discussion of current approaches to preparing citizens in media literacy and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on information integrity. Participants then reviewed previous projects before designing their own community initiatives tailored to the needs of their school libraries. The session concluded with presentations and a collective discussion of the proposals developed by each group.
Together, these two contributions underscore IBERIFIER’s ongoing commitment to promoting media literacy, strengthening information integrity, and empowering educational communities to address the challenges posed by the evolving digital and information landscape.
