IBERIFIER and the Government of Navarra plan to promote media literacy in Navarra

As part of its commitment to combating disinformation, the Government of Navarra is exploring new avenues for cooperation with the IBERIFIER project to strengthen media literacy in the Autonomous Community. This initiative seeks to provide citizens with tools that allow them to critically analyze information circulating in digital environments, thereby reducing the impact of disinformation.

With this cooperation, announced by the President of Navarra, María Chivite, at a recent plenary session of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, Navarra will benefit from the knowledge and experience of a leading European project in the field of verification and analysis of digital media. This commitment to media literacy reinforces the commitment to information transparency and the promotion of a society better prepared for the challenges of the digital ecosystem.

IBERIFIER is the Iberian observatory of digital media dedicated to researching and combating disinformation, formed by an alliance of 25 institutions, including universities, fact-checkers, and research centers in Spain and Portugal. Promoted by the European Commission, it is coordinated by Ramón Salaverría, Professor of Journalism at the University of Navarra.

The project, active since 2021, focuses on identifying and verifying disinformation, offering strategic advice, and promoting media literacy. In its second phase, called IBERIFIER Plus (2024-2026), the observatory will continue collaborating with the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) hub network, consolidating its role in researching and mitigating disinformation in the Iberian Peninsula.
