Results of IBERIFIER media literacy activities presented in Moldova

Vítor Tomé participated as an invited speaker at the High-Level Conference on Media Literacy and Information Integrity: Building Resilience to Disinformation and FIMI in Europe, held in Chisinau, Moldova, where he presented the main results of the media literacy activities developed by the IBERIFIER project on 20 March 2026.

The presentation took place within the panel “Innovative Media and Information Literacy Efforts to Build Information Integrity”, which focused on identifying innovative strategies to strengthen information integrity and counter disinformation and information manipulation across Europe.

During the session, data were shared highlighting the scale of the project: between mid-2024 and February 2025, IBERIFIER delivered 104 media literacy training activities, reaching more than 5,200 participants. These initiatives were primarily carried out in Portugal and Spain, but also extended to countries in Africa, Latin America and other European states.

The results indicate a significant strengthening of citizens’ skills in critically assessing information content, in a context marked by the growing spread of disinformation. The project thus underscores the central role of international cooperation in promoting media literacy.

The conference brought together experts, policymakers and representatives of international organisations, reinforcing the consensus on the need to invest in media education as a key instrument for safeguarding the integrity of the European information ecosystem.
