The Introduction to Digital Journalism course, focused on the challenges and opportunities created by the digital transformation of journalism, concluded on 24 July in Maputo, Mozambique. The training addressed the growing importance of digital platforms in the way people seek, receive and share information.
The initiative resulted from a partnership between CENJOR – Centro Protocolar de Formação Profissional para Jornalistas, a member of IBERIFIER, and Helpo, a non-governmental development organisation, bringing this capacity-building initiative for media professionals to Maputo.
Changing news consumption habits require journalists to master new tools and formats, while also presenting challenges related to the quality, credibility and verification of information. In this environment, the spread of disinformation makes it increasingly important to strengthen the skills and knowledge of media professionals.
The training was delivered by José Moreno, a researcher at Iscte-IUL and IBERIFIER, and covered skills related to the use of digital platforms, the production and adaptation of content for different media and formats, and an understanding of new patterns of information consumption.
Digital journalism requires not only the technical ability to work with new tools, but also a heightened focus on fact-checking, identifying false or manipulated content, and critically assessing sources. These skills are particularly important in an increasingly complex information environment, where large volumes of content can be produced and shared at speed.
The aim of the training was to help media professionals respond to the challenges posed by this evolving information ecosystem and to strengthen their ability to produce and disseminate accurate, reliable and high-quality journalism.
The initiative was delivered through a partnership between CENJOR and Helpo. CENJOR is a Portuguese institution specialising in the professional training of journalists and other media professionals. Helpo is a non-governmental development organisation that implements cooperation projects in areas including education, health and community development, including in Mozambique.
