Researcher Vítor Tomé, coordinator of the Literacy area at IBERIFIER and a specialist in media literacy, took part in a discussion in Brussels on 18 June focusing on the present and future of the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH). The session formed part of the event Collaborate for Impact: Advancing European Digital Education and Skills, which marked the fourth anniversary of this European Commission initiative.
The panel also featured Karen Triquet, a specialist in European digital education policy at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Declan Qualter, an expert in digital education and lifelong learning skills development at University College London. The discussion was moderated by Stefan Jahnke, who leads European projects in educational innovation and digital learning at the Knowledge Innovation Centre.
The meeting was marked by the launch of the final version of the AI Literacy Framework, developed by the European Commission in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The framework provides guidance to support the development of artificial intelligence competences within educational settings.
The occasion also saw the publication, in all official languages of the European Union, of four reference documents designed to support educators’ teaching practice. Available through the AI Literacy Framework website, these resources cover four strategic areas of digital education: Artificial Intelligence, Countering Disinformation, Computer Science Education, and The Use of Digital Content in Education. The documents are also presented in the European Commission’s guidelines for teachers.
The publication of these resources represents a further step in the European strategy to promote digital literacy and strengthen the competences of education professionals, providing practical guidance and resources tailored to a wide range of teaching contexts.
