IBERIFIER Plus Steering Committee meeting to coordinate the project’s final phase

On February 19th and 20th, 2026, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) hosted the IBERIFIER Plus Steering Committee Meeting. This gathering was essential for consortium cohesion as the project enters its final stretch, aiming to complete all milestones before concluding this coming October. The event opened with welcoming remarks from Ramón Salaverría, IBERIFIER Plus Coordinator, and Claudia Rosas Mendoza, representing the BSC.

During the working sessions, detailed progress reports were presented for each Work Package, covering essential areas such as management and coordination, fact-checking, research into AI and digital media, strategy and policy, monitoring of the Code of Practice, media literacy, and communication. These sessions, moderated by Ramón Salaverría, allowed for the coordination of the technical and scientific milestones necessary to successfully navigate the observatory’s final months of operation.

The academic program featured a keynote by Lucas Graves (UC3M) titled “Fact-checking in the post-platform moment”, alongside two high-level roundtables. The first, focused on climate change disinformation, was moderated by Pablo Hernández Escayola (Maldita) and included Carolina Fernández (UC3M), Ana Serra (UVEG), Marilín Gonzalo (Newtral), and Marc Massip (Verificat). The second session analyzed the use of LLMs and gender issues, moderated by Roberto Gelado (CEU) with the participation of Carolina Belver Aguilar (BSC), Nereida Carrillo (Learn to Check), Joana Gonçalves-Sá (LIP), and Marisa Gómez (Plataforma ONG).

To close the event, attendees got a first-hand look at the center’s technological vanguard through a guided visit to the MareNostrum V supercomputer and the BSC’s quantum computer. This meeting in Barcelona served not only to review scientific progress but also to strengthen the bonds of the consortium ahead of the presentation of the project’s final results.
